Licensing & Continuing Education Information

- LICENSE RENEWAL DEADLINE FOR BROKERS: November 30, 2023
- LICENSE RENEWAL DEADLINE FOR SALESPEOPLE: May 31, 2023

Continuing Education is due on EVEN years. Effective with your 2024 renewal, per the Department of Consumer Protection, all continuing education must be completed 90-days before license renewal.

MANDATORY COURSE REQUIREMENT:

Licensees must complete 12 hours of continuing education credit for real estate license renewal, of which 3 hours must be completion of a mandatory course. There are presently two 3-hour courses approved by the CT Real Estate Commission that you may select from to meet the mandatory course requirement:

  • "CT Real Estate Agency Law" (available now)
  • "Hot Topics in Real Estate Laws and Fair Housing - Alternate Mandatory Course" (not yet available)

IMPORTANT NOTE: You DO NOT need to take both, ONLY one of the two. However, you MAY take both, which would then count towards (3) hours of the mandatory requirement and (3) hours towards the (9) hours of elective credit.

Continuing education must be completed 90 days before the real estate license renewal.

2024 Requirements:

All Continuing Education Certificates MAY be uploaded through the Department of Consumer Protection’s existing e-License System (the same system used for renewals). This process can be completed at any time by Real Estate licensees. There is no charge for this service.  Doing this is NOT mandatory, rather an option to help licensees keep track of their own completed CE. Approved Real Estate Schools are still required to submit your completion information to a different vendor which is not accessible for you to review your completed CE.

FAQ

In Connecticut all licensing questions should be referred directly to the Department of Consumer Protection  as they handle licensing.

Am I required to complete CE?
All license holders must complete CE prior to every even-year renewal. CE is due 90 days prior to license renewal. You are only exempt if you PASSED A FULL LICENSING EXAM during the CE period. Visit the following links for complete information: for Brokers or for Salespersons

What if I am a reciprocal license holder?
Connecticut DOES NOT EXEMPT ANYONE from completion of Connecticut specific continuing education. Any continuing educational courses taken by the licensee not already approved by DCP shall be considered by the commission on an individual basis. Evidence of such courses must be submitted at least 30 days before the next Commission Meeting, which must be prior to the end of each two (2) year continuing education period (90 days prior to license renewal). Licensees must submit supporting documents in addition to their course completion certificates. Examples of supporting documents would include detailed syllabi/curriculumns, teaching materials, course outlines, etc. Any submissions without supporting documentation will not be reviewed by the Commission. Licensees can submit an equivalency review request. There is NO equivalency credit toward the mandatory course(s).

What if I am a referral only agent?
All license holders must complete CE. Choosing to only utilize your license for referrals does NOT exempt you from Connecticut CE requirements.

Your Score Reports you received from PSI will reflect the examination passing date. If you do not know when you passed your examination, please call PSI at 1-800-733-9267.
